Well as you may already know many Canberrans spend allot of their work day logged into "The Riot-Act" website (note the witty pun in the title) and discuss interesting topics such as; service levels and food quality of various KFC outlets in town, pontificating the value of speed cameras and letting you know when some musical act that someone is friends with are playing at the Pot Belly in Belconnen.
One topic that often comes up in various guises is cycling.
It appears that cycling threads on the site often get very heated and bitchy with people calling for bans on on-road cycling or demanding bikes have to be registered etc etc. Often there is allot of name calling and general abuse (which is great but its very G-rated).
A week or so ago someone posted a link to a youtube clip where they had filmed a cycle/road crossing for 10 minutes one morning tallying up how many cyclists dismounted their bikes to cross. The discussion people had on the thread was very long and I didn't bother reading it, as I assumed it would be the typical crap.
I'm not really fussed about cycling /road laws and stuff like that but more why is this such a contentious issue in Canberra? What brings someone to film a video like that?
(Though I'm guessing they knew it would get allot of attention on the website.
Is it something to do with the particular population of this city or the city planning ??
Or is there nothing else in town to talk about?
*Sienfield voice - " So whats the deal with Canberrans"
Over and out.
